The birth of an icon: The first Vespa sports model presented to the public was the GS 150 “Grand Sport,” produced in five series between 1955 and 1961. The final version, the VS5, was instantly recognizable by its open rims, which provided better cooling of the brake drums. This configuration also allowed for the mounting of an optional auxiliary fuel tank on top of the spare tire, a rarely seen accessory.
